Frequently Asked Questions

Find Answers. Keep Good Moving.

Search common questions about donations, stores, programs, receipts, hours, and Evansville Goodwill’s connection to the broader Goodwill network.

Showing all frequently asked questions.

01 What items can Evansville Goodwill not accept?

Goodwill cannot accept certain items because of safety, environmental, legal, or disposal requirements. Examples may include mattresses and box springs, and chemicals and paint.

Acceptance can vary by location. Review the current donation guidelines or contact your nearest donation center before bringing a large or unusual item.

02 Why are items priced the way they are if everything is donated?

Donated goods must still be collected, transported, sorted, prepared, displayed, and sold by local team members. Store revenue also supports operating costs and funds Evansville Goodwill’s education, employment, and community programs.

Pricing helps turn donated goods into local opportunity while keeping usable items in circulation.

03 Where do my donations go?

Usable donations are prepared for sale through local Goodwill stores. Revenue from those sales helps fund education, workforce development, employment services, and support programs across the tristate region.

Items that cannot be sold may be routed through responsible reuse, salvage, or recycling channels when possible.

04 Does Evansville Goodwill pick up donations or vehicles?

Donation pickup availability may depend on the item, location, and current scheduling capacity. Contact Evansville Goodwill before placing items outside or arranging transportation.

Vehicle donations are handled through Goodwill’s vehicle donation program. Visit the donation page for the current process and contact information.

05 Is there really no tuition for The Excel Center or GoodSkills Academy?

Yes. These programs are designed to remove financial barriers to education and workforce preparation. Eligible participants can access instruction and support without traditional tuition costs.

Program requirements and enrollment steps vary, so connect with Opportunity Services for current eligibility and intake information.

06 How do I get a tax receipt for my donation?

Ask the donation attendant for a receipt when you drop off your items. Keep the receipt with your records and complete any required description or valuation information.

Goodwill team members cannot assign a monetary value to your donated goods. Consult a qualified tax professional regarding deductibility and documentation requirements.

07 What are your store and donation center hours?

Hours may differ by store and donation center and can change for holidays or special circumstances.

Visit the store locations page to find current hours, addresses, and phone numbers for each location.

08 How is Evansville Goodwill connected to Goodwill International?

Evansville Goodwill Industries, Inc. is an autonomous, local 501(c)(3) nonprofit member of Goodwill Industries International. That means we are locally governed, locally operated, and locally focused. While Goodwill International provides nationwide advocacy, brand support, and best practices, every item you donate and every dollar spent in our stores stays right here in our 28-county territory of Southern Indiana, Southeastern Illinois, and Western Kentucky, going directly toward helping a local neighbor.

The connection to Goodwill International provides access to a shared mission, national resources, standards, and a network of Goodwill organizations serving communities across the country.
